The Voice fans are divided after Riley Green made his first major decision of Season 30, choosing sister duo Ferryn & Brinkley over solo singer Brandy Neelly in a Battle Round that left many viewers questioning whether the competition was fair.
On Tuesday’s episode, Green faced his first Battle Round as a new coach after sending Neelly and sisters Ferryn & Brinkley into a head-to-head performance for Team Riley. The three singers performed Miranda Lambert’s Mama’s Broken Heart, with Green and guest mentor Carly Pearce helping them prepare for the battle.

After the performance, Green praised all three singers and said the group had delivered a strong version of the song.
“First of all, the performance was great,” Green told them, praising their energy, attitude and stage presence. He also admitted that Ferryn & Brinkley had an advantage because they were already comfortable singing together.
The coach also brought up his connection with Neelly. During her Blind Audition, which aired Monday, the 31-year-old revealed that she had previously made a birthday cake for Green through her baking business in Nashville. Green had joked during her audition that he would make her another cake if she joined his team.

That personal connection made his decision even harder.
“This is my first time doing this,” Green said before making his choice. “It’s really tough to make a decision between these acts.”
In the end, Green chose Ferryn & Brinkley to continue on Team Riley.

The sisters from Sevierville, Tennessee, had impressed the coaches during their Blind Audition with When Will I Be Loved by the Everly Brothers. Green explained that their tight harmonies and ability to perform together made them stand out.
“They’re the only duo on the show,” he said. “Individually, they’re super talented, but the fact that they can sing together and their harmonies are so tight is what really makes them something that I think could be a real contender on The Voice.”
Fans question the “two against one” battle
While many viewers enjoyed the performance, a large group of fans were unhappy to see Neelly eliminated after competing against a duo.
Several viewers argued that the battle felt unfair because Ferryn & Brinkley had two voices and built-in harmonies, while Neelly had to compete alone.
“It’s supposed to be The Voice, not The Voices,” one viewer complained.

Another wrote that it was “not a fair fight” because the sisters had two voices and tight harmonies.
“Two against one,” another viewer simply commented.
Some fans went further, saying Neelly should have been saved or stolen after her performance. One viewer said she was “shocked” that Neelly was not stolen, while another argued that she deserved another chance.
Other viewers, however, defended Green’s decision and praised Ferryn & Brinkley for how well they worked together. Some said the sisters could go far in the competition, while others said all three singers sounded great and even suggested that the three women should form a group.

One fan summed up the reaction by saying that the battle showed just how much talent Season 30 has this year.
Neelly also received plenty of praise from viewers, with fans calling her performance powerful and saying they loved being able to hear every word she sang. Others praised her for holding her own despite being the only solo singer in the battle.
For Green, the decision marked his first difficult choice as a Voice coach. As the Battle Rounds continue, the new country coach will have even more tough decisions to make as his team competes for a place in the Live Shows.
The Voice continues Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC, with episodes streaming the next day on Peacock.
