Brandon Diaz got the second chance he had been waiting for when he returned to The Voice Season 30 more than a decade after his first audition ended without a chair turn.
The 29-year-old singer took the stage during Blind Auditions Part 5 and performed Justin Timberlake’s “Drink You Away.” This time, his performance earned chair turns from Queen Latifah and Kelly Clarkson, giving him an opportunity to continue the journey he first started as a teenager.
Queen was the first coach to turn, with Kelly following soon after.
Brandon Has a History With ‘The Voice’
After Kelly praised Brandon’s vocals and called him “insane,” she asked what he had been doing since his first appearance on the show.
Brandon revealed that this was not actually his first time auditioning for The Voice.
“I was here over a decade ago,” he told the coaches.
Brandon first auditioned during Season 4 when he was a teenager. At the time, both Adam Levine and Kelly were coaches, but neither of them turned their chairs for him.
His return became even more surprising when Brandon revealed another connection to the show: his wife, Jackie Foster, previously competed on Season 14.
Kelly immediately recognized Jackie, while Adam also remembered having her on his team.
Jackie had previously made it onto both Kelly and Adam’s teams during her time on the show.
Adam Levine Admits He Made a Mistake

The revelation prompted the coaches to reflect on Brandon’s first audition.
Adam admitted that he had made a mistake by not turning for Brandon years earlier.
Riley Green, who also did not turn this time, acknowledged how difficult it had been to resist pressing his button.
“It got very difficult to not turn,” Riley said.
Queen Latifah went even further, calling it a “big mistake,” while Kelly agreed with her fellow coach.
Despite Adam wanting Brandon on his team, Queen believed the singer needed a fresh start and a new source of energy.
She told him that the current opportunity could allow him to keep doing what he had already shown he could do while continuing to improve until he was capable of going all the way.
Jackie Foster Returns to the Stage
The connection between Brandon and The Voice became even more personal when Kelly asked whether Jackie was in the audience.
Soon afterward, Jackie joined Brandon on stage and reunited with the coaches.
Kelly asked whether the married couple planned to release music together.
“It hasn’t happened yet, but maybe after he wins,” Jackie joked.

The moment added another layer to Brandon’s already unusual Voice journey, with both husband and wife now having their own history with the competition.
Brandon Chooses Queen Latifah
When it was time to choose his coach, Brandon said he wanted to trust his instincts.
“I have to go with my gut, and I have to go with the person that saw it from the get-go,” he said.
That person was Queen Latifah.
Because Queen was the first coach to turn her chair for him, Brandon chose to join Team Queen.
After years of waiting for another opportunity, Brandon finally earned the chair turn that had eluded him as a teenager—and now has the chance to see how far he can take it.
