The Battles have officially begun on The Voice Season 30, and Riley Green had the difficult job of sending one of his artists home.
The first Battle of the season aired Tuesday night, October 6, with Green becoming the first coach to choose between two artists after the Blind Auditions. He also had help from country star Carly Pearce, who joined his team as his celebrity mentor.

Brandy Neelly Is Eliminated From The Voice
The first Battle featured Ferryn and Brinkley Wright against Brandy Neelly from Team Riley Green.
The three artists performed Miranda Lambert’s Mama’s Broken Heart, bringing plenty of attitude and energy to the stage.
Riley praised all three singers after the performance, admitting that choosing a winner would be difficult.

“I knew it was going to be tough,” Green said, praising the trio for delivering a strong performance.
He ultimately chose Ferryn and Brinkley to advance, ending Brandy’s run on The Voice.
Green explained that Brandy had done an “awesome job” and was a great talent, but he believed Ferryn and Brinkley had a strong chance of making it through Cut Week.
The coach also pointed to their biggest advantage: They are the only duo in the competition and have exceptionally tight harmonies.
Ferryn and Brinkley Wright Advance
Ferryn and Brinkley entered the competition as a four-chair turn, and their Battle performance gave Green another reason to believe they could become serious contenders.
Their family connection also gives them something no other artist on the show has.

Green said their ability to sing together while also standing out individually could help them make a deep run this season.
With the win, Ferryn and Brinkley become the first artists from Team Riley Green to advance through the Season 30 Battles.

Carly Pearce Returns as a Voice Mentor
The first Battle episode also marked the return of celebrity advisors to The Voice.
Green brought in Carly Pearce to help prepare his artists, giving his team advice before they took the stage.
Pearce previously served as a Playoff Advisor for Michael Bublé on The Voice in 2024. She now has another chance to help artists navigate one of the toughest parts of the competition.
What Happens After The Battles?
The Battles are only the beginning of a major change to the Season 30 format.
After the Battles, artists will enter Cut Week, where each coach will send two artists directly to the Live Shows. Five more artists on each team will then compete for one remaining spot.
Once the Top 12 is set, America will vote for one additional artist, bringing the Live Show lineup to 13 contestants.
The Voice Season 30 continues Monday and Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC, with new episodes streaming the following day on Peacock.
