The Voice Season 31 Is Changing the Rules as Viewers Lose Their Power to Vote in the New Celebrity Competition

The Voice is preparing for one of its biggest shake-ups yet, with Season 31 reportedly changing several traditions that fans have known for years.

The upcoming season will not only introduce a new host but will also completely change the way the competition is filmed and decided.

Season 31 will be entirely pre-taped, meaning there will be no live shows during the celebrity edition. The season will also use a new voting system that will take the decision out of the hands of viewers watching from home.

Instead of millions of fans voting online or by other traditional methods, the winner will reportedly be chosen by members of the studio audience in Los Angeles.

Those audience members will use a new voting system created specifically for the celebrity version of the competition.

This will be another major difference from the show’s traditional format. The only other season that was completely pre-taped was Season 29 in early 2025, although that season reportedly used a different voting system.

The change could also make production much easier for the celebrity contestants. Because there will be no weekly live broadcasts, the entire season can be filmed months ahead of its premiere. That gives famous contestants more flexibility to work around their busy schedules.

It also gives producers and editors more time to shape each episode, allowing them to create a faster and more controlled final product without the risks that come with live television.

The biggest change, however, may be the loss of the public vote.

For years, viewers have played an important role in deciding which singers survive and who ultimately wins The Voice. Season 31 will reportedly remove that part of the competition, leaving fans at home without a direct say in the final result.

The format changes are arriving alongside a major host switch.

After 15 years and 30 seasons, Carson Daly will no longer host the upcoming celebrity edition. Keke Palmer will take over as the new host, bringing her experience in acting, music, television and live entertainment to the franchise.

Palmer has already confirmed her new role, while Daly has made it clear that he is not leaving The Voice completely. He is expected to remain involved behind the scenes as a producer while continuing his work on Today.

Season 31 will also be unlike any previous regular season because the contestants will all be celebrities. Instead of unknown singers competing for their big break, the cast will reportedly include recognizable names from music, television, reality shows and other areas of entertainment.

NBC has not yet revealed the complete lineup, although several familiar personalities have reportedly been connected to the project.

With a new host, celebrity contestants, no traditional live shows and a completely different voting system, Season 31 could look very different from the The Voice fans have watched since the series debuted.

Season 30 is scheduled to premiere on September 21, 2026, while the celebrity edition is expected to arrive in early 2027.
