Netflix is expanding the Bridgerton universe once again, this time turning the spotlight on one of the franchise’s most beloved characters. The upcoming spin-off will explore Lady Violet Bridgerton’s early life and the romance that shaped her future with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton.
Netflix and Shondaland announced the new project on Thursday, October 8, confirming that the series will follow a younger Violet and her relationship with Edmund. According to Netflix’s official description, the story will chronicle the early life of a young Lady Violet and her romance with the Viscount, taking inspiration from the successful prequel format established by Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
A New Chapter in the Bridgerton Universe
The Lady Violet project will become the second spin-off in the Bridgerton franchise, following Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, which focused on Queen Charlotte, played by Golda Rosheuvel in the original series.
In the prequel, India Amarteifio portrayed the younger version of Charlotte, while Connie Jenkins-Greig appeared as a younger Lady Violet. In the main Bridgerton series, the adult Violet is played by Ruth Gemmell, whose performance has helped establish the character as a central figure in the Bridgerton family.

However, Netflix has not yet confirmed whether Jenkins-Greig will reprise her role in the new series. Casting details for the younger Edmund and other characters have also not been announced.
Shonda Rhimes Returns to Lead the Story
Shonda Rhimes, the creative force behind Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte, will write, serve as showrunner, and executive produce the Lady Violet spin-off alongside Nicholas Nardini. Tom Verica will direct and executive produce, while Betsy Beers will also serve as an executive producer.
The creative team brings considerable experience with the franchise, having helped build the romantic period drama into a global success. The new series offers an opportunity to explore Violet beyond her role as the matriarch of the Bridgerton family, delving into the experiences and relationship that shaped her life.
Despite the announcement, several key details remain under wraps. Netflix has not revealed the official title, release date, or episode count, leaving fans waiting for further updates on the project.
Another Shonda Rhimes Spin-Off Is in Development

The Lady Violet series is not the only spin-off Rhimes is developing. She is also working on a new project connected to Grey’s Anatomy, the long-running medical drama she created.
First reported in May, the proposed series is described as an edgy drama following a team at a rural medical center in West Texas, where the facility represents the last chance for medical care across miles of remote territory. The project is expected to arrive on ABC at a later date, although further details have not been confirmed.
With another Bridgerton prequel in the works and a new medical drama in development, Rhimes continues to expand the television worlds that have made her one of the industry’s most influential creators.

For Bridgerton fans, however, the biggest question is how the new series will portray Violet’s romance with Edmund—and which familiar faces might return to bring the next chapter of the family’s history to life.
