Arséma Thomas Confirms Return For Netflix’s New Bridgerton Spin-Off

Danbury Queen Charlotte 2

The Bridgerton universe is expanding with a new prequel centered on Lady Violet’s romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, and one familiar face has already confirmed her return. Arséma Thomas, who captivated viewers as the younger Lady Danbury in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, is set to return for the upcoming spin-off.

Following Netflix’s announcement of the Violet-focused series, Thomas teased her involvement on Instagram Story with the message we ride again. She later confirmed her participation in the project through a private message with entertainment outlet Black Film Alerts. Netflix has yet to officially announce the cast, but Thomas’ confirmation offers fans their first glimpse of who could return to the Bridgerton universe.

A New Prequel Will Explore Violet and Edmund’s Love Story

The upcoming series will chronicle the early life of a young Lady Violet and her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, long before they become the parents at the center of the Bridgerton family.

Although the show does not yet have an official title, it reunites the franchise with creator Shonda Rhimes, who will write, serve as showrunner, and executive produce alongside Nicholas Nardini. Nardini previously worked as a writer and producer on Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, while Tom Verica will direct and executive produce. Betsy Beers is also attached as an executive producer.

The project follows the success of Queen Charlotte, which introduced younger versions of several familiar characters while exploring the Queen’s relationship with King George III. The new prequel will similarly revisit the past, giving viewers a closer look at the romance that shaped Violet’s life.

Could Julia Quinn’s Violet in Bloom Inspire the Series?

Danbury Queencharlotte

Unlike Queen Charlotte, which told an original story within the Netflix adaptation’s continuity, the Violet spin-off has potential source material in Julia Quinn’s 2013 novella Violet in Bloom.

Published as part of The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After, the novella provides important background on Violet’s upbringing and her relationship with Edmund. Although Netflix has not confirmed whether the series will directly adapt the story, the novella could offer a foundation for the show’s narrative.

The book explores Violet’s childhood at the Ledger estate, where her parents, Lord Ledger and Lady Vivian, have a bitter and unhappy relationship. Growing up around that emotional distance helps explain why Violet’s eventual romance with Edmund becomes so meaningful.

Edmund represents a sharp contrast to the household in which Violet was raised. His warmth and courtesy offer her a different understanding of love, laying the groundwork for the relationship that will shape the Bridgerton family for generations.

However, the Netflix adaptation may take creative liberties. In Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Lord Ledger, played by Keir Charles, develops a secret romantic relationship with the younger Lady Danbury. His television portrayal also differs in tone from the more unpleasant figure described in Quinn’s novella, suggesting the prequel may continue to reshape elements of the original story.

Which Bridgerton Characters Could Return?

Arséma Thomas is the first cast member to confirm her involvement, but several other familiar characters could appear. For now, however, their participation remains unconfirmed.

Youngviolet Bridgerton

Young Lady Violet Bridgerton

Ruth Gemmell plays the adult Violet in Bridgerton, while Connie Jenkins-Greig portrayed her younger counterpart in Queen Charlotte. If the new series adopts a dual-timeline structure similar to its predecessor, Gemmell could potentially return alongside Jenkins-Greig. Neither actress has been confirmed for the spin-off.

Viscount Edmund Bridgerton

Edmund previously appeared in flashbacks during Bridgerton Season 2, portrayed by Rupert Evans. His younger courtship years with Violet could become a major focus of the new series, potentially requiring another actor to portray him at that stage of his life. No casting announcement has been made.

Lord and Lady Ledger

Violet’s parents could play important roles as the series explores her childhood and the experiences that shaped her views on love. Lord Ledger appeared in Queen Charlotte, while Lady Vivian was portrayed by Katie Brayben. Whether either actor will reprise their role remains unknown.

Lady Danbury

Thomas’ return is the first casting development associated with the prequel. Her character already has a meaningful connection to Violet’s family history through her relationship with Lord Ledger, potentially giving the series an opportunity to revisit that storyline.

Thomas appeared throughout all six episodes of Queen Charlotte, where Lady Danbury’s personal struggles and secret relationship with Lord Ledger formed a significant part of the drama.

Queen Charlotte

India Amarteifio played the younger Queen Charlotte in the 2023 prequel, while Golda Rosheuvel portrays the character in Bridgerton. Given Charlotte’s importance to the franchise’s television continuity, her appearance in the Violet spin-off is a possibility, but neither actress has been confirmed.

When Will the Lady Violet Spin-Off Premiere?

Netflix has not announced a release date, official title, episode count, or complete cast for the upcoming prequel. A 2027 or 2028 premiere is currently a possibility, rather than a confirmed release window.

The announcement arrives as the main Bridgerton series continues to move forward. Season 5 is confirmed for 2027, while development on Season 6 is already underway, meaning the franchise has multiple chapters in the works.

For now, Thomas’ return gives fans their first concrete casting detail to celebrate. The bigger questions remain unanswered: who will play young Edmund, whether Jenkins-Greig will return as Violet, and how closely the series will follow Julia Quinn’s original backstory.

As production details emerge, the Violet spin-off promises to offer a deeper look at the romance and family history behind one of Bridgerton’s most beloved characters.
