Patrick Stewart spent his final public appearance supporting a team that had been close to his heart since childhood. The legendary Star Trek and X-Men actor died at 86 on October 28, 2026, leaving behind a celebrated career across film, television and theater.
Stewart was last seen in public at a Huddersfield Town football match against Crawley Town in England on November 9, 2024. Wearing a blue-and-white scarf for his beloved team, the actor smiled and raised one hand while watching from the stands.
His love for Huddersfield Town went back decades. In a 2017 interview with Sky Sports, Stewart recalled that his uncle Arnold took him to his first match when he was seven years old.

“Huddersfield has always been my club. I watch every match, usually 24 hours later,” he said in 2023, according to Huddersfield Hub.
Before that football outing, Stewart’s last known public appearance at an entertainment event was at a special screening of Netflix’s The Piano Lesson in Los Angeles on October 19, 2024.
Although he had not been seen publicly for nearly two years, Stewart remained active on social media. His final Instagram post came on October 16, 2026, when he shared news that his audiobook recording of Shakespeare’s sonnets had been submitted for Grammy consideration.

“Delighted to learn that @simon.audio have submitted my audiobook of Shakespeare’s sonnets for Grammy consideration,” he wrote. “I think The Bard would love a Grammy!”
Grammy nominations are scheduled to be announced on November 16.
Stewart died at his home in Los Angeles with his wife, Sunny Ozell, by his side. A statement from his longtime spokesperson, Kelly Bush Novak, said the actor had experienced a “brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia.”

“He has been held in the warm embrace of family and friends, surrounded by live music, prayer, tears, laughter, and the kind of profound emotion that only he could inspire after a lifetime of devotion to us all,” the statement said.
The statement also remembered Stewart as a “lifelong Huddersfield Football fan,” highlighting how much the club meant to him beyond his career in entertainment.
