On Friday, Oct. 9, Netflix confirmed that filming for the second season had concluded while revealing a fresh lineup of actors who will appear in the upcoming episodes.

The additions will join the returning cast as the series continues exploring the Ingalls family’s experiences and the community around them.

Showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine expressed her gratitude to the new cast members and the production team for bringing the latest season to life.

“All of our incredible cast additions this year have made this season in Walnut Grove absolutely magical,” Sonnenshine said.

She also praised the crew for their hard work and thanked the show’s partners at CBS Studios, Anonymous Content and Netflix for their continued support.

Season 2 Will Adapt On the Banks of Plum Creek

The second season will draw from On the Banks of Plum Creek, the fourth book in Wilder’s Little House series.

In an interview with PEOPLE in July, Sonnenshine discussed the inspiration behind the new season, including a visit to the real Walnut Grove the previous year.

“I actually visited the real Walnut Grove last year … And so we took a lot of inspiration from that, from the real town,” she explained.

The showrunner said the production team wanted to create its own version of Walnut Grove while remaining inspired by both the historical location and Wilder’s books.

She also teased that the series would continue exploring different settings and giving each season its own distinctive atmosphere.

“We are so excited to show people our Walnut Grove, which is inspired by the real place and inspired by the books,” Sonnenshine said. “And yeah, I think it’s going to be so fun and different.”

Charles Ingalls Faces New Challenges

Little House on the Prairie' Season 2: Cast, Plot, Premiere Date, and More Details

Luke Bracey, who portrays Charles Ingalls, previously revealed that Season 2 will take place 18 months after the events of the first season.

The time jump will give the character an opportunity to reflect on his past decisions and continue developing as a husband and father.

“I’m excited to see him learn from his mistakes and grow as a man and grow as a husband and grow as a father,” Bracey said.

His comments suggest that Charles’ personal growth will remain an important part of the family’s story as the series moves into its next chapter.
