Carrie Underwood’s new post for American Idol sparks debate as fans and experts react to her changing look

It seems Carrie Underwood is the latest woman to fall victim to the infamous MAGA makeover.

The 43-year-old country singer took to Instagram and X over the weekend to urge her followers to vote in the ongoing season of American Idol, which she judges.

Carrie beamed a wide smile for the selfie, rocking bold glam with big false lashes, a smoky eye, bronzed cheeks and a rosy pink, glossy lip. Her honey-blond locks were styled in a half-up, half-down look and she wore a plain black T-shirt. It comes after Carrie performed at the 2025 presidential inauguration.

She captioned the post, “It’s super important for you all to vote for your favorites to make the Top 5 on #AmericanIdol tonight!” However, fans were left distracted by Carrie’s looks, with many saying she looked “unrecognizable” and had been “MAGAfied.”

One user commented, “Republican make up,” as a second added, “OMG! She truly has Mar-a-Lago face, yuck.” Elsewhere, a third asked, “OMG, what happened…has she been socializing with the Mara-logo ladies?”

Carrie first sparked speculation that she supported President Donald Trump when she performed America the Beautiful at his inauguration in January 2025, a decision that drew significant backlash.

While she stated she performed to promote unity and honor the country, she has not explicitly endorsed him politically.

The term MAGA makeover is a recent phenomenon used to describe the drastic glam makeover undergone by women associated with the Trump administration, usually involving plastic surgery, heavy makeup and bold outfits.

The likes of Lara Trump, Karoline Leavitt and Kristi Noem, to name a few, are some famous MAGA faces.

With this in mind, Express US reached out to Dr. Gizem Seymenoglu from Longevita clinic in London, to find out what Carrie could have possibly had done.

Comparing Carrie Underwood’s earlier and more recent appearances, Dr Gizem began, “There’s a much stronger focus on lashes and a more polished, full-coverage base.

“That by itself can make the eyes look more open and the skin more refined.” That said, a few features could point towards possible aesthetic treatments.

“The brows look more elevated,” Dr. Gizem observed, adding, “This could be achieved with Botox, but a subtle brow lift or even an upper blepharoplasty might also be possible.”

She also pointed out that “she might have had Botox around the outer eye area,” helping to soften fine lines. At Carrie’s mid-face, Dr. Gizem noted she has a lifted and naturally fuller appearance that gives a generally well-balanced look. “It doesn’t appear to be classic filler work to me,” she explained.

The expert added, “Instead, it might be more consistent with biostimulatory injectables such as Sculptra or Radiesse, which work gradually by encouraging the skin to produce more collagen over time.

“The jawline looks quite firm and well-supported, so it’s possible that energy-based procedures such as radiofrequency microneedling, like Morpheus8, may have been used to help improve skin tightness and contour.”

Dr. Gizem went on, “We might be seeing a combination of features that create a more lifted overall appearance. You could notice higher-looking cheekbones, which may be due to natural anatomy, makeup techniques, or possibly volume changes in the midface area.

“The buccal fat region can appear more hollow or ‘sunken’ in some cases, which gives a more sculpted look.” She added that another common theme is the eyes and upper face, “There may be a trend toward more lifted brows and a more open upper face. This can sometimes make the midface appear tighter or more elevated overall.”

According to her observations, Dr. Gizem, who has over 10 years of industry experience, shared that a visual pattern could be described as, “a lifted brow position, a more elevated midface, and a slightly more hollowed buccal area.”

Lastly, Dr. Gizem also notes a general appearance trend in these public figures, where long, softly waved or outward-styled blow-dried hair is often preferred, alongside soft-toned lip colors and a more natural makeup approach.

She added that the focus appears to shift toward the eyes, with less heavy eyeliner or eyeshadow and more emphasis on mascara and fuller-looking lashes, as well as more defined, slightly fuller eyebrows.

As for how much this could have cost Carrie, Dr. Gizem also shared that achieving and maintaining this overall aesthetic balance typically involves a combination of non-surgical treatments over time rather than a one-off procedure.

“Taken together, a non-surgical maintenance plan like this could typically range from around $10,000 to $20,000+ annually, depending on how intensively treatments are combined and repeated,” Dr. Gizem said.

“And this doesn’t include any surgical procedures, which would be separate and usually longer-term investments.”
