Brooklyn Marie proved that age was no limit when she stepped onto the stage during Night 3 of The Voice Season 30 Blind Auditions.
The 14-year-old singer performed Olivia Rodrigo’s “Traitor” while playing guitar, quickly catching the attention of the coaches. Queen Latifah and Kelly Clarkson both turned their chairs for the young singer, while Adam Levine later admitted that he wished he had turned as well.
Queen Latifah was especially surprised when she realized how young Brooklyn was.
“What is this?!” she exclaimed after learning her age.
“I’m so excited and so happy for you,” Queen Latifah told Brooklyn. “Your voice sounded so special to me right away that I was like, ‘What’s happening here?’”
She also praised Brooklyn for singing while playing guitar and pointed to the ending of her performance as a standout moment.
“That ending?! … Is it me or did she leave y’all stuck like that?” Queen Latifah said, adding that she was excited to hear what Brooklyn could do next on The Voice.
Adam Levine also praised the teenager, saying it was amazing to see so much musical growth happening at such a young age.
Brooklyn Marie chooses Team Kelly
While Riley Green did not turn his chair, he made it clear that he was impressed by Brooklyn’s performance.
“I don’t think I could help you any,” Green told her. “You’re a much better singer than I am. Everything about it was great. It was perfect.”
Kelly Clarkson then made her case, pointing to her own experience as a competition-show winner and her history of coaching young singers.
“I know how to do it, girl,” Clarkson said. “I know how to win this show.”
Brooklyn ultimately chose Clarkson and joined Team Kelly.
Clarkson later explained why she wanted the teenager on her team, saying Brooklyn has “a really special tone” and a purity in her voice that stood out.
“Man, her voice is incredible,” Clarkson said. “She could win.”
Brooklyn will now move forward with Team Kelly as Season 30 continues its Blind Auditions. The Voice airs Mondays on NBC following its three-night premiere week.
