Harmony McKee may have surprised The Voice viewers with her first-ever country performance, but there is much more to the 19-year-old singer than what appeared during her Blind Audition.

The Olive Branch, Mississippi, native turned two chairs with her performance of Miranda Lambert’s “Gunpowder & Lead,” catching the attention of Riley Green and Adam Levine. After revealing that she normally sings R&B, rock, and blues, McKee ultimately chose Green as her coach. Here are three things viewers may not know about the rising singer.

1. She Comes From A Musical Family

Music has been part of McKee’s life since she was young. She grew up singing in church alongside her grandfather, who also introduced her to some country music. Her father plays drums, while her aunt is also a singer.

Her father has remained one of her biggest supporters and a source of honest feedback. The two also watched singing competitions such as American Idol and America’s Got Talent together while McKee was growing up.

That musical background may help explain why McKee was willing to take such a big risk on The Voice. Even though she does not consider herself a country artist, she was able to bring her R&B, blues, and rock influences into a Miranda Lambert song.

2. She Already Won A Singing Competition

McKee was not completely new to the competition world when she stepped onto The Voice.

In late 2025, she competed in Trevecca Nazarene University’s Trojan Idol, a collegiate singing competition held in Nashville. McKee won the title, adding another major achievement to her growing musical journey.

At the time, she was studying business with a focus in professional accounting at Trevecca. While her education is outside the music industry, her success on stage has continued to show that singing remains a major part of her future.

3. Her Country Debut Almost Turned Into A Coach Battle

McKee’s Blind Audition became even more interesting when she revealed that it was her first time performing a country song. That revelation immediately caught Levine’s attention, while Green saw a connection between her love of blues and the country sound.

Green pointed to Chris Stapleton as an example of an artist who blends country with blues and told McKee he believed she could do something similar.

McKee eventually chose Green, but the moment came with an unexpected twist. The audience fell unusually quiet after her decision, leaving Green confused about why they were not cheering. He later joked about the crowd and celebrated the fact that he had beaten Levine for McKee.

McKee’s The Voice journey is still just beginning, but her first Blind Audition already showed why she stands out.
