The Voice Season 30 got off to a lively start when BigCountry stepped onto the stage and immediately caught the attention of three coaches.

The 37-year-old singer from Tacoma, Washington, performed his own version of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put A Spell On You” during the Blind Auditions.

His performance was enough to make Adam Levine, Queen Latifah and Riley Green turn their chairs, while Kelly Clarkson stayed put.

Kelly quickly admitted she may have made a mistake.

“Now I feel like a complete moron,” she joked after finally seeing BigCountry. She explained that she was waiting to hear another level from him before turning, but still praised him as “one helluva singer.”

With Kelly out of the race, Adam, Queen Latifah and Riley immediately went into full competition mode.

Adam was quick to remind BigCountry that he turned his chair first.

“I turned around way first, way more first than anybody else,” Adam said.

Riley had a very different response. He suddenly started blowing his duck whistle, making Kelly and Queen laugh before telling Adam, “Excuse me. You were saying Adam.”

Adam then brought up his record on the show, reminding BigCountry that he has won The Voice four times and was the coach behind last season’s winner.

But Riley was ready with another joke.

When Adam tried to make his case, Riley teased that Adam’s nickname should really be “Little City.”

Adam fired back, calling himself an “average-sized city,” while Riley continued with “medium-sized city” and “normal-sized city.”

The playful exchange gave BigCountry plenty to watch as the coaches fought for his attention.

Adam eventually got serious, telling the singer that he knows what it looks like when someone has the potential to win the competition.

“I know when I turn around and see someone who can win this thing,” Adam said, promising that they could have an unforgettable time together.

Queen Latifah and Riley Green make their own pitches

Queen Latifah then made her case by focusing on BigCountry’s unique performance.

“You made it yours,” she told him, adding that she wanted to help him keep bringing that energy to the stage throughout the competition.

Riley took a different approach.

Instead of immediately talking about himself, he asked BigCountry to explain more about his musical background.

The singer revealed that although he was “country bred and country fed,” he performs many different styles of music.

That gave Riley the opening he needed.

The country star explained that country music is not only about the genre. For him, it is also about telling stories about where someone comes from, what they believe and how they grew up.

Riley said BigCountry brought soul to the performance while still giving it the kind of roots he connects with in country music.

BigCountry gets some very personal gifts

The battle became even more entertaining when BigCountry’s family and friends were brought onto the stage.

His wife, mother and two of his former military battle buddies joined him after the audience became filled with cheers.

Then the coaches brought out their gifts.

Riley offered BigCountry a pair of overalls, while Queen Latifah had a robe ready as another way to win him over.

Adam, however, told BigCountry not to get distracted by the gifts.

“Don’t pay attention to all these shiny objects,” he said, joking that he had a hoodie but was keeping it hidden because he wanted to focus on the competition.

Riley still managed to steal another moment when he walked toward the stage to show BigCountry the overalls and even stopped to kiss his mother.

Adam then made one final emotional appeal.

“If you’re thinking about Riley, I don’t know where your head is right now, but don’t break my heart,” he told BigCountry.

Kelly then asked the question everyone was waiting for:

“Who are you going to pick as your coach?”

And with three coaches fighting for him, BigCountry’s decision could set the tone for one of the most entertaining battles of the Blind Auditions.
