Helaena’s Final Moments
Imprisoned in the Red Keep and warned by Mysaria not to trust Rhaenyra, Helaena faced the devastating reality that her unborn child could be used against her. After a tense confrontation with Rhaenyra, she chose to leap from her chamber window, ending her life on the spikes below.
Her death not only shocked viewers but also marked the loss of one of the few gentle voices in the brutal Targaryen civil war.

Phia Saban Reflects
Saban, 27, admitted she had long known her character’s fate, saying: “I’m just happy I made it three seasons!” She described filming the scene as both sad and surreal, praising the prosthetics team for creating the lifelike aftermath of Helaena’s fall.
“Objectively, it’s very sad. I love Helaena. I feel for Helaena… But for me? Kind of a bucket list thing: I got to die on TV!” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
Crafting Helaena’s Exit
Saban worked closely with producers Ryan Condal and Sara Hess to shape Helaena’s final moments, drawing inspiration from Joan of Arc and themes of freedom. “She felt as though she had been killed already in many ways… she wanted to reclaim a relationship with the world and not be silenced and used,” Saban explained.
Her final confrontation with Rhaenyra underscored this longing, as she accused her half-sister of caring only for power and war.

Legacy of Helaena
Introduced in Season 1, Helaena became a fan-favorite for her cryptic prophecies and quiet resilience. Her death, foreshadowed by her own tapestry depicting Rhaenyra’s bloody reign, sets the stage for an even darker Season 4.
For Saban, saying goodbye was bittersweet: “This is something I’ve been working on, and a character I’ve been caring for, for five years now. But there is joy in this. There’s pride and excitement.”
✨ Helaena’s tragic fall is more than just another death in Westeros — it’s a turning point that strips away the last semblance of innocence in the Dance of the Dragons, leaving only ruthless ambition and grief to drive the war forward.
