Fifteen-year-old Koumba Diallo turned the The Voice Season 30 Blind Auditions into a heated coaching battle after delivering a powerful performance of Demi Lovato’s “Stone Cold.”
The high school freshman and class president from Delano, California, earned a four-chair turn during the second night of the three-part premiere, giving Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, Queen Latifah and Riley Green a chance to fight for her.
Koumba Diallo Leaves All Four Coaches Impressed
Diallo said she had watched The Voice since she was a young girl and dreamed of one day standing on its stage. She currently sings in her school choir and wanted the coaches to see how committed she was to pursuing music.
For her Blind Audition, she chose Demi Lovato’s “Stone Cold.”
Queen Latifah turned first, followed by Kelly Clarkson and Riley Green. Adam Levine waited until almost the very end before finally pushing his button, completing the four-chair turn.
Levine was the first coach to speak after the performance, joking about how different he felt when he was 15.
Riley Green immediately jumped in with a joke about Levine’s age.
“The ’60s were tough,” Green teased.
“Oh, I get it because I’m old. Is that it?” Levine replied.
Despite the jokes, Levine quickly turned serious as he praised Diallo’s talent.
“You’re just amazing,” he told her, adding that he could hardly imagine how good she might become at 16 if she was already performing at that level.

Queen Latifah Connects With The Young Singer
Queen Latifah focused on one of the most distinctive elements of Diallo’s performance: her lower register.
She praised the teenager for starting in the lower part of her range and delivering powerful notes, while also complimenting her decision to perform a Lovato song.
When Latifah asked where her love of music came from, Diallo revealed that she had been singing since she was about 9.
Her first experience came through a pageant. Diallo explained that her mother initially encouraged her to try dancing or piano because she had never sung before.
Diallo refused and decided she wanted to sing instead.
She eventually entered the pageant’s talent competition, won her category and also earned the title of queen.
Latifah immediately saw a connection between Diallo’s determination and her own experiences as a teenager.
She told Diallo that she would be happy to have her join Team Queen.
Riley Green And Adam Levine Trade Jabs

Green also made a strong pitch, calling Diallo’s performance “the most perfect” and “the most powerful” he had seen.
As Green talked about Diallo’s youth and future, Levine interrupted with another joke.
“Who wants wisdom and experience? Boring!” he quipped.
The two coaches continued trading jokes about Levine’s age.
Green joked that Diallo would have to send Levine an email because he would not have a computer. Levine fired back that she could leave him a message on his answering machine.
Green then claimed he had tried calling Levine on his beeper before realizing Diallo might be too young to know what a beeper was.
The playful exchange added even more energy to an already competitive four-coach battle.
Kelly Clarkson Gives Diallo Some Serious Advice
When it was Clarkson’s turn, she took a more personal approach.
Clarkson praised Diallo’s mother for making her work for her accomplishments rather than immediately giving her praise. She explained that having people around you who keep you grounded can be especially important for young artists entering the music industry.
Clarkson also explained why she waited before turning her chair.
She said she recognized where the song was going and wanted to see whether Diallo could deliver everything the performance required.
“I’m a little like your mama. I’ll make you work for it,” Clarkson told her.
Levine then tried to claim the role of Diallo’s biggest parental comparison, pointing out that he had waited until the final moment to turn.
“I am the most like your mama. I made you work for it all the way until the end,” he said.
Green immediately had another answer.
“Actually, Adam is more like your grandad.”
“Grandpa won The Voice last season,” Levine fired back.
Koumba Diallo Chooses Kelly Clarkson
Clarkson ultimately returned to the music itself, telling Diallo that song selection and timing would be crucial as she progressed through the competition.
She also reminded the teenager that she had previously worked with and won alongside young artists on the show.
“This show was created for voices like yours,” Clarkson told her.
Then came the decision Diallo had dreamed about for years.
After considering all four coaches, the 15-year-old chose Team Kelly.
“Oh, my God!” Clarkson exclaimed, admitting that she did not know Diallo was going to choose her.
Clarkson immediately began looking ahead, telling the young singer that they would work toward the finale together.
Diallo’s decision gave Clarkson another impressive young vocalist for her Season 30 team, while leaving Levine, Latifah and Green without the teenage powerhouse they had hoped to recruit.
The Voice continues with the final episode of its three-part Season 30 premiere on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC, with episodes streaming the following day on Peacock.
