The Gilded Age Season 4 Release Schedule Reveals How Many Episodes Fans Can Expect

Louisa Jacobson, Blake Ritson, Kelley Curran

The Gilded Age is returning for another season of social rivalries, family tensions and shifting fortunes in New York society. Season 4 premieres on HBO on Sunday, Nov. 1, with eight episodes scheduled to arrive weekly through the finale on Dec. 20.

The new season picks up after Bertha Russell’s (Carrie Coon) dramatic rise through high society, exploring the consequences of her ambition for the people closest to her. Her husband, George Russell (Morgan Spector), is still struggling with her interference in their daughter’s marriage, setting up another difficult chapter for the powerful family.

Christine Baranski, who plays Agnes van Rhijn, has also teased that viewers should expect “serious complications in the household.” Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in October 2026, she hinted at the scale of the upcoming storylines.

“A great deal happens,” Baranski said. “And because there are so many well-established characters at this point, you have all these narrative lines and scenes moving from one to another with great panache.”

Here is what viewers need to know about the Season 4 episode count, premiere time and weekly release schedule.

When Does ‘The Gilded Age’ Season 4 Premiere?

Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon

The fourth season premieres Sunday, Nov. 1, on HBO. New episodes will air on the network and become available to stream on HBO Max at the same time.

According to the official season description, the story examines the cost of Bertha’s social success and how her family must reckon with the consequences. George remains particularly upset about what he considers his wife’s interference in their children’s personal lives.

“We find out that George has not really forgiven Bertha from what he sees as a transgression,” Coon told Vanity Fair in August 2026. “He thinks she has meddled in a very compromising way in their children’s personal lives. He is ruthless, but he’s ruthless in business — not with his family.”

Elsewhere, Agnes looks for an opportunity to reclaim her position in society. Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson) is preparing to forge a new path, while Peggy Scott (Denée Benton) navigates her relationship with her future in-laws.

How Many Episodes Are in Season 4?

Jack Gilpin, Taissa Farmiga, Carrie Coon, Ashlie Atkinson

HBO has confirmed that Season 4 will consist of eight episodes.

The episode count follows the format of the show’s second and third seasons, which also had eight installments. The first season, by comparison, ran for nine episodes.

Although HBO and the show’s creative team have not explained the reduction, creator Julian Fellowes has previously discussed the financial challenges of producing the period drama. Its elaborate sets, costumes and large-scale social gatherings require careful budget management.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in August 2024, Fellowes explained that production sometimes has to adjust when ambitious scenes become too expensive. If a ballroom sequence cannot be afforded, for example, the story might instead feature a dinner.
