More than a decade after his brief relationship with Taylor Swift ended, Conor Kennedy is preparing for a lavish wedding celebration with Brazilian singer Giulia Marinho. While comparisons have inevitably been made to Swift’s recent high-profile wedding, there is no indication that Kennedy’s plans are intended as a response to his former relationship.
According to multiple reports, Kennedy and Marinho will celebrate their marriage with a three-day wedding event in Rio de Janeiro later this year. The festivities are expected to include a Roman Catholic wedding ceremony at the historic Nossa Senhora do Carmo da Antiga Sé church, followed by celebrations at several of the city’s best-known landmarks.

One of the most talked-about elements of the wedding is a reception planned near the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue atop Corcovado Mountain. Overlooking Rio de Janeiro, the monument is one of Brazil’s most recognizable landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The location is expected to provide a memorable backdrop for family and friends traveling from around the world.
Marinho has previously explained why Brazil was always her preferred wedding destination. She reportedly told Kennedy that she loved him but did not want to get married in Massachusetts. Instead, she wanted to bring his family and friends to her home country so they could experience Brazilian culture, hospitality, and the festive atmosphere that often defines weddings there. She described Rio as the most beautiful city in the world and viewed the celebration as a chance to share that with loved ones.

The couple reportedly held a small civil ceremony in Los Angeles earlier this year before planning the larger celebration in Brazil. More than 150 members of the Kennedy family and guests from the United States are expected to attend the October festivities.
Because Taylor Swift recently celebrated her own widely publicized wedding, some media outlets have compared the scale of the two events. Swift’s reported ceremony attracted significant attention for its celebrity guest list and elaborate production. However, Kennedy’s wedding plans appear to reflect his fiancée’s personal connection to Brazil rather than any competition with his former girlfriend.

Kennedy and Swift briefly dated in 2012 when he was 18 and she was 22. Their relationship lasted only a few months but generated considerable media attention at the time. During their romance, Swift purchased a home near the Kennedy family compound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, though she later sold the property after the relationship ended.
Since then, both have taken very different paths. Kennedy has built a career focused on environmental advocacy and law, while Marinho has established herself as a pop singer in Brazil. The couple has reportedly been together since 2022 and is now preparing to begin married life together.
Although headlines may frame the two weddings as a rivalry, the available information points instead to two separate celebrations shaped by different priorities, locations, and personal stories. Kennedy and Marinho’s upcoming ceremony appears to be centered on honoring the bride’s heritage and bringing together two families across continents.
