Kayleigh Mathews turned a long-held dream into a major The Voice moment when all four coaches fought to recruit her after her Blind Audition.
The 31-year-old Tucson native performed Vince Gill’s emotional country ballad “When I Call Your Name” on Monday night, quickly capturing the attention of every coach in the room.
About a minute into her performance, Adam Levine became the first coach to hit his buzzer and turn his chair. Riley Green followed, with Kelly Clarkson and Queen Latifah turning soon afterward.
The four-chair turn immediately transformed Mathews’ audition into a four-way battle, with each coach hoping to add her to their team.
“The way that you fill the room with that voice, you are such a magnificent talent,” Levine told her. “I would be honored to be your coach.”
Green highlighted his own connection to country music, while Clarkson pointed out her experience working with Vince Gill, the artist behind the song Mathews had just performed.
From Tucson to Nashville

Mathews left Tucson for Nashville in 2018, pursuing a career in country music. She has since released at least two independent EPs along with several singles available across major streaming platforms.
Before appearing on The Voice, Mathews had already spent years building her career, making the Blind Audition a culmination of a journey filled with long nights, travel and persistence.
In a social media post ahead of the episode, Mathews reflected on everything that had led her to the stage without revealing the result of her audition.
She wrote that behind the audition photo was “a whole lot of life,” including “the late nights, thousands of miles, closed doors, the prayers, the little wins and all the times we chose to keep going.”
She also described receiving the opportunity to audition as an answered prayer she had been working toward for years.
Why Kayleigh Mathews Chose Queen Latifah
After all four coaches made their pitches, Mathews ultimately chose Queen Latifah as her coach.
Latifah told the singer that she had turned her chair because Mathews deserved to receive a four-chair turn.
“That was absolutely gorgeous. You took me to church. It became a spiritual moment for me,” Latifah said.
She added that the more Mathews sang, the more she felt she could help her find songs that would showcase the beauty of her voice and allow her to continue connecting with audiences.
For Mathews, the decision marked the beginning of the next chapter of her The Voice journey.
Her Blind Audition had already delivered one of the biggest milestones of her career: all four coaches wanted her, but only one could become her coach.
Mathews will continue competing on Season 30 of The Voice, which airs Monday nights on NBC and streams on Peacock.
