After more than six years away from full concerts, Celine Dion has officially returned to the stage, completing a demanding 25 song performance in front of roughly 30,000 fans in Nanterre, France.

The concert marked Dion’s first full show since March 8, 2020, before she was diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological condition that can cause muscle stiffness and painful spasms. The illness forced the singer to cancel her world tour and step away from performing.

Dion’s comeback at the Plenitude Arena in Nanterre was not simply about returning to the spotlight. The performance was also a test of whether she could make it through an entire concert and continue performing during a demanding residency.

She had already given fans a glimpse of her return when she performed at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony. However, that appearance lasted only one song. This time, Dion performed for approximately two hours and 15 minutes, with another show scheduled just days later.

The singer became visibly emotional early in the concert. Wearing a Dior gown and Boucheron necklace, she fought back tears before acknowledging the significance of being back in front of a full audience.

Despite the physical challenges associated with her condition, Dion continued through a set that included some of her biggest songs, among them My Heart Will Go On and The Power of Love. She also performed Catalani’s Ebben? Ne andrò lontana, accompanied by falling artificial snow.

Her voice has changed since her earlier years, particularly at the highest end of her range, but she continued to tackle demanding material throughout the night. The emotional high point came during the encore, when she delivered the climactic note of All By Myself before turning toward her musical director in visible relief.

The audience responded with an enormous celebration, while fans who had traveled from different parts of the world described the experience as deeply emotional.

Dion’s return is part of an ambitious Paris engagement consisting of 26 shows, with 16 performances planned across five weeks and another 10 scheduled for May 2027.

After completing the concert, Dion left the audience with a message of affection and a reminder to take care of themselves.

For the singer, the night represented more than a comeback performance. It was the first step in a new chapter after 2,379 days away from a full concert stage.
