Sarasota’s Luke Curran makes emotional return to music after nearly 10 years, sparking a fight between Adam Levine and Riley Green

Sarasota native Luke Curran is getting another chance to chase his music dream after stepping onto The Voice stage and earning turns from two coaches.

The 31-year-old singer performed Jim Croce’s Operator (That’s Not the Way It Feels) during the Season 30 Blind Auditions on Oct. 5, catching the attention of both Adam Levine and Riley Green.

Levine was quick to praise Curran’s song choice and the story behind his performance.

“I love your voice and I love that you chose that song,” Levine told him. “I really felt that made me understand you and a lot about your taste and what you want to accomplish.”

Green and Levine then made their case for why Curran should join their teams, but the singer already had his decision in mind.

“I appreciate you guys so much for turning, but I’m a Day 1 Voice fan; I gotta go Team Adam,” Curran said.

Curran’s choice sent him straight to Team Adam and marked a major moment in a musical journey that had been put on hold for years.

Born and raised in Sarasota, Curran began studying music when he was just 5 years old. As a teenager, he fronted rock bands and wrote original songs before studying music engineering.

His career eventually took him in a very different direction. Curran moved into software development and worked for major technology companies, stepping away from performing for nearly a decade.

His wife, Allison, encouraged him to find his way back to music. Curran began returning to open mic nights, writing songs and performing regular gigs before releasing an EP and playing ticketed shows with a full band around New England.

Now living in Norwood, Massachusetts, Curran says his love of music is still deeply connected to his family. His mother played guitar and performed, while childhood campfire singalongs helped shape his passion for storytelling through music.

Curran describes himself as a technology fan and a self-proclaimed nerd who loves fantasy worlds and figuring out how things work. But music has always remained the place where he feels most connected to himself.

His appearance on The Voice is now giving him the chance to reopen a door he once closed.

Curran is also one of three Florida artists who advanced through the Season 30 Blind Auditions. Stuart singer Sophia Liano joined Team Queen Latifah after performing I Surrender, while Palm Harbor’s Lexi Stephens chose Team Adam after singing Die on This Hill.

For Curran, however, the next challenge is already here. The Voice has moved into the Battle Rounds, where artists from the same team face off by performing the same song and coaches must decide who advances.

After nearly a decade away from the spotlight, Curran now has his chance to prove that his music dream was worth coming back for.
