Following the first night of Quarterfinal performances on August 18, 11 acts waited to discover whether America had voted them into the next round. By the end of the August 19 results show, only three had secured spots in the Semifinals.
Howie Mandel had already sent Hundred Fingers straight to the Finals after giving the magic duo his live Golden Buzzer. That left 10 other performers fighting for just three Semifinal places.
Host Terry Crews began the night by looking back at some of the biggest moments from the previous evening. Simon Cowell revisited his reaction to James & Marina and admitted that he may have made the wrong call by giving the mentalist duo his red buzzer. He also revealed that he enjoyed CommUNITY ATL’s performance more after watching it again on television.
The first group of results brought both good and bad news. Dog trainer Olivia Befus advanced to the Top 5, while James & Marina were eliminated.
Next came CommUNITY ATL and rapper Luke Taleno. Luke earned a place in the Top 5, ending CommUNITY ATL’s run in the competition.
Royal Lasers then faced Ashford Sanders, with the laser act moving forward and Sanders being eliminated.
Singer Brook Lynn and comedian Cris Sosa were next to learn their fate. Cris survived and joined the Top 5, while Brook Lynn’s journey came to an end.
The final matchup featured the Jesse White Tumbling Team and dancer Sando. Jesse White Tumbling Team initially appeared to have made the cut, while Sando was eliminated.
That left five acts competing for only three Semifinal spots: Olivia Befus, Luke Taleno, Royal Lasers, Cris Sosa and Jesse White Tumbling Team.
When the final results were revealed, Olivia Befus, Royal Lasers and Luke Taleno were announced as the three acts moving on to the Semifinals.
The result meant that Cris Sosa and Jesse White Tumbling Team were ultimately eliminated despite making the Top 5.
The eliminated acts from the first Quarterfinal results show are James & Marina, CommUNITY ATL, Ashford Sanders, Brook Lynn, Sando, Jesse White Tumbling Team and Cris Sosa.
With three more weeks of Quarterfinal performances still ahead, nine additional acts will earn places in the Semifinals. Three performers will also receive live Golden Buzzers and earn automatic spots in the Finals, joining Hundred Fingers.
The competition is now officially heating up, with the remaining acts facing even greater pressure as they get closer to the $1 million prize.
