The disciples are hiding, Jesus has been arrested, and danger is closing in.

That is the tense situation at the center of a newly released scene from The Chosen Season 6, giving fans an early glimpse at one of the most emotionally difficult chapters yet for the biblical drama.

Series creator and director Dallas Jenkins unveiled the roughly five-minute sequence during a livestream on Sunday, August 23. Taken from Episode 2, the scene picks up after Jesus’ arrest and places the disciples in a moment of uncertainty as they struggle to figure out what to do next.

With Season 6 scheduled to premiere November 15 on Prime Video, the preview offers another indication of just how dramatically the series is approaching the final hours of Jesus’ earthly life.

The Disciples Hide at Lazarus’ House

The scene begins with the disciples taking refuge at Lazarus’ house following Jesus’ arrest.

The atmosphere is understandably tense. With their teacher in custody, the disciples are left trying to determine their next move while remaining out of sight.

Then comes a knock at the door.

When it opens, Matthias is standing outside.

His message is direct: the disciples need to leave Lazarus’ house and get as far away as possible.

The brief encounter immediately adds another layer of danger to an already desperate situation.

Who Is Matthias?

For viewers familiar with the biblical story, Matthias is an especially significant figure.

In the New Testament, Matthias is chosen to replace Judas after Judas betrays Jesus. His appearance in the Season 6 scene therefore connects the drama with events that will become increasingly important as the story moves toward its conclusion.

The character is played by Jake Sidney Cohen, who has appeared in The Chosen during Seasons 4 and 5. In his earlier appearances, Cohen was credited as “The Watcher/Matthias.”

His return in Season 6 suggests that the series is continuing to build toward the events surrounding the disciples and the aftermath of Jesus’ arrest.

Season 6 Moves Into the Crucifixion

The new scene arrives at a crucial point in the overall story.

Season 5 focused on Holy Week and the Last Supper. Season 6 will move into the Crucifixion and cover the final 24 hours of Jesus’ life before he is nailed to the cross.

That makes the upcoming season one of the most consequential installments of the series.

The new footage doesn’t reveal everything that lies ahead, but it captures the fear and uncertainty surrounding the disciples immediately after Jesus’ arrest. Their familiar world has suddenly been turned upside down, and the people who followed Jesus are now forced to confront what his capture means for them.

The tension in the scene comes not from a large battle or spectacle, but from the knowledge that the disciples are vulnerable and have very little idea what will happen next.

The Final Chapters Are Coming Into Focus

The Chosen has described itself as a historical drama based on the life of Jesus and the people who knew him.

The series stars Jonathan Roumie, Paras Patel, Shahar Isaac, George H. Xanthis, Elizabeth Tabish, Noah James, Abe Bueno-Jallad, Jordan Walker Ross, Vanessa Benavente, Luke Dimyan, Richard Fancy, Paul Ben-Victor and Andrew James Allen.

The biblical drama has primarily filmed at Camp Hoblitzelle in Midlothian since Season 3, and the first trailer for Season 6 was released last month.

While the sixth season is preparing to depict the Crucifixion, the story will not end there.

Season 7, which will cover the Resurrection, has already been in production since April.

For now, however, the focus remains on the darkest stretch of the disciples’ journey.

After the Last Supper, Jesus’ arrest changes everything. With the disciples hiding at Lazarus’ home and Matthias warning them to flee, the latest footage sets the stage for a season defined by fear, loss, faith and the events that will reshape their lives forever.

The Chosen Season 6 premieres November 15 on Prime Video.
