A deeply personal family dispute involving country singer Rory Feek has intensified after his estranged daughters publicly criticized the way he shared updates about their younger sister Indiana Feek’s recent medical emergency.

Indiana, 12, underwent open-heart surgery in June, but after initially returning home, she was hospitalized again in July following complications.

On Saturday, July 11, Rory Feek, 61, shared the frightening ordeal in a post on Substack, revealing that the family feared the worst when Indiana’s condition suddenly deteriorated.

“We thought we had lost her,” Rory wrote, alongside photographs showing Indiana being airlifted to the hospital and later recovering in a hospital bed.

Soon after the post was published, Rory’s estranged daughter Heidi Feek, 39, responded in a series of videos shared to her Instagram Stories, expressing anger over how she learned about her sister’s condition.

According to Heidi, she first discovered the medical emergency through social media rather than from her family.

“Yesterday my father posted a Substack post where he detailed how she essentially almost died, according to him,” she said.

While relieved that Indiana was reportedly recovering, Heidi criticized what she described as her father’s continued sharing of deeply personal moments on his monetized Substack.

“I am still upset because of the ongoing exploitation of my little sister on his monetized Substack account.”

Heidi argued that Indiana’s surgeries and recovery should remain private, saying such vulnerable experiences should not be publicly documented without Indiana’s consent.

She also objected to Rory including promotion for his song “Thank You Lord” at the conclusion of the post.

“That’s not a moment to be taking photos, that’s not a moment to be blogging about, and it’s not a moment to be self-promoting or promoting your organization performing your song,” Heidi said.

“It all makes me absolutely sick to my stomach.”

Her sister, Hopie Feek, 38, echoed similar concerns in an Instagram post published on July 11.

Referring to Indiana’s emergency transfer to Austin after complications from surgery, Hopie questioned why photographs had been taken during such a critical moment.

“My beautiful 12 year old sister was being life flighted to Austin due to complications after her heart surgery… which somehow was the pristine time to stop and take photos!”

She added that, from her perspective, Indiana appeared frightened and vulnerable while surrounded by unfamiliar medical staff.

“In moments like these I would never stop to think I need to take photos for my blog and for my fans!”

In a separate post, Hopie also reflected on the difficult relationship she and Heidi have with their father.

She explained that although she continues to love Rory, she believes mistakes were made during their upbringing and hopes Indiana will have a different experience.

“People can’t fathom why we fight against the father who raised us… as hard as it is for me it’s necessary.”

She added:

“I love him and always will, but mistakes were made… I want it to be different for Indy.”

Heidi and Hopie have said they have not seen Indiana in more than two years, citing an ongoing dispute with Rory over the 12-year-old’s care.

The sisters previously took legal action against Rory in the fall of 2024, alleging that he had prevented them from maintaining contact with Indiana.

Because Indiana, who has Down syndrome, is a minor, details of the legal filing have not been made public, and the proceedings remain ongoing.

When contacted by Us, a representative for Rory Feek declined to comment on Heidi and Hopie’s public statements.

As Indiana continues her recovery, the family’s deeply personal conflict has once again unfolded in the public eye, with both sides offering very different perspectives on how her story should be shared.
