Anne Hathaway is hoping life imitates art after sharing the screen with Tom Holland in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey.
During a new interview with CTV’s e-talk, the 43-year-old actress, who is expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman, revealed that working alongside Holland left such an impression on her that she hopes her own children grow up to be just like him.
In The Odyssey, Hathaway portrays Penelope, while Holland, 30, plays her on-screen son Telemachus. When asked how she tapped into her “mother energy” for the role, the Oscar winner gave her co-star one of the sweetest compliments imaginable.
“Well, first of all, I have to say as a mom in real life, I very much hope all of my children grow up to be as wonderful as my onscreen child.”
As Hathaway gestured toward Holland, the actor nearly spit out his drink laughing at the unexpected praise.
She continued with an even bigger compliment.

“Tom is like a dream son. And that, honestly, is kind of like the key to it. We have this amazing script, brilliant actors.”
Hathaway also admitted that the positive atmosphere on set made filming Christopher Nolan’s ambitious project even more meaningful.
“But also, I just really like Tom,” she said with a laugh, before adding that she also loves working with Matt Damon, who stars as King Odysseus.
The actress credited Nolan for creating an environment built on trust and mutual respect despite the blockbuster scale of the production.
“I love Chris, and so I just feel like even though this was this big, epic movie, it was really grounded in intimate appreciation of each other, respect for each other.”
She explained that every cast member was determined to bring their very best to the project.

“I don’t think any of us wanted to let Chris down. So I think we all just kind of harnessed our highest strength and our highest passion, and we just tried to be an actor that was worthy of being in a Chris Nolan movie.”
The heartfelt comments come during an especially exciting chapter in Hathaway’s personal life.
The actress—recently named PEOPLE’s World’s Most Beautiful 2026—announced on June 19 that she and Adam Shulman, 45, are expecting their third child. She revealed the news on Instagram with a video showing off her growing baby bump while wearing a crop top and flowing skirt, captioning the post:
“x Baby, I’m yours x.”

The couple are already parents to sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6, and have consistently kept their family life out of the spotlight.
Although Hathaway clearly adores Holland, she has previously shared that she would prefer her own children avoid becoming child actors.
Speaking to WSJ Magazine in March 2022, she explained that she would follow the same approach her own parents took with her.
“You have all the time in the world to be a professional actor; you can only be a child once.”
She added that she would encourage her children to study, attend classes, and read before considering a career in acting, saying she would strongly discourage them from entering the industry too young.
The Odyssey marks Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s legendary epic, chronicling Odysseus’ decade-long journey home after the Trojan War.
Alongside Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, and Matt Damon, the film boasts an all-star ensemble that includes Elliot Page, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Lupita Nyong’o, John Leguizamo, Travis Scott, and more.
The Odyssey is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 17.
