Sumrall’s 20-Year-Old Singer Kayleigh Clark Breaks Silence After Controversial The Voice Eliminations, Winning Thousands of Fans’ Praise

After a dramatic episode of The Voice Season 28, 20-year-old singer Kayleigh Clark of Sumrall, Mississippi, has spoken out following her controversial elimination—a decision that sparked intense debate among fans, many of whom called the show “rigged.”

During the Knockouts, Team Niall coach Niall Horan faced a tough choice between Kayleigh, who performed LeAnn Rimes’ Blue, and the trio DEK of Hearts, who sang Lady A’s What If I Never Get Over You. Both acts impressed the coaches with their talent.

Joe Jonas offered guidance to both performers. To Kayleigh, he said, “Be careful of the high note at the end — don’t be afraid of that. Make sure you got plenty of air … just take a deep breath.” To DEK of Hearts, he added, “You’re having a good time. I like to see that … the real secret of longevity is when you breakthrough to the next generation.”

Reba McEntire praised both performances, noting, “Kayleigh, that was wonderful … your yodels were really, really perfect. DEK of Hearts, y’all’s harmony is so good.” Snoop Dogg echoed her sentiment: “DEK of Hearts, your harmonies and when you guys come together is magic. Kayleigh, yeah, she’s got all of that.”

Niall Horan admitted it was a near-impossible decision: “I think this is what it looks like when two four-chair turns get into a knockout together. Kayleigh, you took all of Joe’s notes on board and just smashed it. DEK, that wall of sound that you make is just so beautiful. … This is a complete 50-50, I have no idea what I’m gonna do.” Ultimately, he chose DEK of Hearts to advance.

The decision immediately sparked a wave of social media reactions. Fans rallied behind Kayleigh, sharing messages of support and disappointment over her exit. “I’m so sad that #KayleighClark went home. I love her beautiful voice, she absolutely deserved to win,” one viewer wrote, while another added, “No steals or saves in the Knockouts sucks!!!! We lost Marty and Kayleigh in the same episode and my heart hurts.”

Other fans criticized the format itself, arguing that solo artists are at a disadvantage against trios. “Duos and trios should not be allowed on The Voice anymore. Solo artists never have a chance against them,” one viewer commented. Another wrote, “Of course she loses to the trio … so unfair.”

Kayleigh herself addressed the elimination in a heartfelt social media post, writing, “I’m so sad to say that my journey on The Voice has now come to an end. I truly don’t even know where to begin. This experience has been unlike anything I’ve ever been a part of. I have had so many amazing comments and messages throughout the show, and I’m so grateful.”

She continued, “Just because my time on the show is over doesn’t mean my journey is over. DONT YOU WORRY… we’re just getting started 😉 Thank you so much to all of my new followers for joining this crazy ride!” Kayleigh also thanked Niall Horan, saying, “Thank you for believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself, and giving me the confidence to do this! All of your tips and feedback, I will take with me throughout my career.”
