At just 20 years old, Alysa Liu has already accomplished what many athletes spend a lifetime chasing.

Fresh off a dominant run at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina (where she helped secure gold for Team USA in the team event and later captured gold in women’s singles) Liu has become one of the breakout stars of the Games.

While many fans are fascinated by incredible free-spirited performances, some are wondering about something a bit more personal: Is she dating? According to Liu, not exactly—and that’s very much by design.

“Oh my god, this is, like, the first time I’ve talked about this,” she said when asked about her love life by Cosmopolitan back in January. “That’s a whole other thing that I’m not feeling right now. I have so much love in my life already, and I have so many amazing people, I just haven’t felt the need to look for more or look elsewhere. I really love myself. And my standards are quite high, too.”

She added that her schedule also makes romance complicated. “If I were to date someone, we’d each have to make tons of sacrifices. It’s just not worth it at this point to build something. I think when it comes, it will. I love being single, I really do. I do see myself being single for a long time. Especially right now, I choose friendships over relationships any day.”

Her focus tracks with the journey that brought her here. In a January interview with 60 Minutes, her father Arthur Liu revealed he invested between $500,000 and $1 million into her skating career. “I spared no money, no time,” Arthur admitted. “I just saw talent.”

Alysa briefly retired at 16 following the 2022 Winter Olympics. During that break, she rediscovered her independence—and when she considered returning, it had to be on her terms. She explained in the interview that she set clear boundaries, especially with her father: “I get to pick my own program music. I get to help with the creative process of the program. If I feel like I’m skating too much, I’ll back down. If I feel like I’m not skating enough, I’ll ramp it up. No one’s going to starve me. Tell me what I can and can’t eat.”

And Arthur respected the shift, even if it was bittersweet. “He’s a great father, you know, I just didn’t want him to be as invested in it as he was before,” Alysa shared. Arthur admitted the transition hurt “a little bit.” A little bit.”
