John Foster brings the crowd to its feet with a country-style national anthem and first pitch at Pete Goldsby Field

“American Idol” Season 23 runner-up John Foster traded the bright lights of the stage for the ballpark spotlight—and fans couldn’t get enough.

On Sunday night, the rising country star and Addis native delivered a powerful, country-style version of the national anthem at Pete Goldsby Field in Baton Rouge, just before the Baton Rouge Rougarou faced off against the Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators.

His deep, heartfelt vocals gave the anthem a whole new flavor that had the crowd buzzing with excitement. He then capped off the moment by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, earning cheers from the stands.

The night was part of the team’s “Bark at the Park” promotion, where fans got free entry for bringing their dogs, thanks to sponsor Raising Cane’s. But even with the pups in attendance, it was Foster who stole the show.

Fresh off his breakout season on “American Idol,” Foster has been making major moves. Just 18 years old and still a student at LSU, he’s already performed at big-name events like CMA Fest and Cajun Country Jam, and made his debut at the legendary Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on June 7.

And he’s not slowing down.

Foster recently announced he’ll return to the Opry for a special birthday show on July 9, where he’ll celebrate turning 19 on one of country music’s most iconic stages. Even bigger? He’s set to share the stage with one of his heroes, Jamey Johnson, during another Opry appearance on August 21.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Foster reflected on how far he’s come since the early days of “Idol.” “I can vividly remember that feeling of ‘I’ll never be good enough,’” he wrote. “But I proved myself wrong… and most importantly, I gained you, my family.”
