“American Idol” winner Jamal Roberts just dropped a few words online and fans are losing it. In a recent Instagram post, the Mississippi-born singer teased lyrics for a brand-new song, and it’s already creating serious buzz.
🎵 “Traded in the lazy days I used to lay by the river. Oh, how I miss it. Out here, smiling like this is the life, but deep inside, I’m just pretending. No, that ain’t living. I’m missing you in Mississippi, and it don’t feel the same without you with me.”

The emotional lyrics, paired with Roberts’ signature mix of honesty and heart, left fans both excited and deeply moved. One person wrote, “We know you are in the lab!!!! Let’s goooooooooo 🙌🙌🙌” while another added, “These sound like song lyrics. I’m sure it’s all overwhelming.”
Roberts later confirmed there’s more to come: “There’s a new song coming out Sunday,” he said. “I think I want to dedicate it to Mississippi.” Even without a title, fans are ready. Comments poured in with love and support: “Home is where the heart is” and “Homesickness is real! Take care of yourself.”
Another fan added: “Your wonderful voice has placed you in a position of power. But remember—you’re in control. Any day you want to go lay by the river in Mississippi, go do it. We’ll still listen to your beautiful gift when you get back.”
But that’s not all Jamal had to share.
He’s Joining the “The Boy Is Mine” Tour with Brandy, Monica, and More
The Mississippi singer also made a huge announcement. He’ll be hitting the road this fall as part of Brandy and Monica’s upcoming arena tour, “The Boy Is Mine,” named after their hit song from 1998. That single spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won a Grammy Award.
“The things God is doing in my life 🥺 Hmmmmm and new music is on the way 🔥🔥🔥 Sit tight 🤞🏾 oh and I love yall ❤️💪🏾”
That’s what Roberts posted on Instagram when he confirmed he’s joining the 24-city tour, which kicks off October 16 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Other stars on the lineup include Kelly Rowland and Muni Long.
Fans celebrated the news online:
“You are the star. Can’t wait to see you in concert!”
“Blessings, blessings, and more blessings ❤️🙏🏾”
“Aunties, let’s GOOO!”
“Keep smiling because I love it. This is your journey now. If you need us, we got you—not just Mississippi!!!! Wherever you are, Auntie gotcha ❤️❤️❤️”
He’s Still Keeping It Real
Roberts also addressed online rumors about Carrie Underwood not supporting him during the season. “Carrie is a country singer. She had her picks and stuck with who she liked. But we respect that—and I feel like the better person won.”
With calm confidence, Roberts is reminding fans he’s focused on moving forward with music, family, and faith.
His debut single “Heal” (originally by Tom Odell) showed his gift for turning any song into soulful R&B, something Lionel Richie called “Jamalarizing.” “I really studied the lyrics,” he said. “I read them, I write them, and I put myself inside of them.”
As the first Black man to win American Idol since Ruben Studdard in 2003, Roberts made history. But more than that, he’s bringing his whole heart into every move he makes from writing music to raising his daughters and remembering where he comes from.
