VOTING OPEN! American Idol has officially handed the power to viewers as the Season 24 Top 20 prepare to compete, marking the first time this year that the public will determine who moves forward. After weeks of auditions and intense rounds in Nashville, the competition now enters a new phase where fan votes will decide which singers stay and which contestants see their journey end.

The race to this stage has moved quickly in 2026. The show narrowed its field from 127 hopeful singers to a Top 30 during Hollywood Week, known this season as the “Music City Takeover.” A following episode then cut another ten contestants, leaving just 20 performers still fighting for the title.
Among them are three platinum ticket recipients — Jordan McCullough, Brooks Rosser, and Kyndal Inskeep — who earned special recognition earlier in the competition. One platinum ticket was chosen by industry executives, another by contestants’ families, and the third by fellow competitors, adding an unusual twist to this season’s selection process.

Now the spotlight shifts to fans. Viewers watching the March 16 episode can vote beginning at 8 p.m. ET when the show airs, with voting remaining open until 6 a.m. the following morning. Unlike previous seasons, the show’s official app is no longer used for voting, meaning fans must choose from several other methods.
Supporters can vote on the show’s official social media accounts on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook by commenting the name of their favorite contestant on pinned voting posts. Each comment counts as one vote, and viewers can cast up to ten votes per contestant. Traditional text voting also remains available, allowing fans to send a contestant’s assigned number to 21523, again with up to ten votes allowed.

Online voting is also open through the show’s official website at AmericanIdol.com, giving fans several ways to help decide who advances.
The Top 20 will perform during two special episodes filmed at the Aulani Resort in Hawaii, where contestants will appear in two groups of ten. The results of these performances, determined entirely by public voting, will decide which singers advance to the live shows, where eliminations will continue weekly until a winner is crowned.

Season 24 also features a familiar lineup behind the judges’ table, including Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Carrie Underwood, who joined the panel in 2025 following the departure of Katy Perry.
With performances set in Hawaii and the public vote now underway, the competition has officially entered its most unpredictable stage yet — where every comment, text, and vote could determine who continues the journey toward becoming the next American Idol.
