American Idol Judges Give Very Different Reactions After Top 5 Results Send Brooks Rosser and Daniel Stallworth Home

American Idol judges delivered sharply different reactions following a tense live results night that saw Brooks Rosser and Daniel Stallworth eliminated, narrowing the competition down to the Top 5 in a dramatic, viewer-decided outcome.

The April 27 episode featured the Top 7 performing Taylor Swift hits and California classics before host Ryan Seacrest revealed America’s vote. As the results were announced, the mood at the judges’ table shifted noticeably, with Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie each offering a different reflection on what the moment meant for the competition moving forward.

Carrie Underwood focused on how quickly the season is now approaching its end and the pressure that comes with it. She emphasized just how strong the remaining talent has become and how much responsibility now sits with the contestants themselves.

“We’re coming down to the wire, and everybody is so talented and so good,” she said. Carrie added that she feels the audience has played a major role in shaping the competition week by week. “America has done such a great job of paring down week to week,” she noted, before offering direct advice to the Top 5. She urged them to take bigger creative risks as the stakes rise. “You gotta take risks. You gotta leave it all on the stage. You gotta think about what kind of artist you want to be, and you have to give them that and say your prayers.”

Luke Bryan reacted more to the unpredictability of the results, acknowledging how often the show delivers surprises at this stage of the competition. He admitted the eliminations hit in real time even for the judges.

“It’s always shockers. Some people get sent home. It was that for me tonight,” Luke said. He added that the emotional swings are part of what makes the season intense, especially as it nears the finish line. “It’s gonna be that way till we get our winner. And we’re having fun and just love what these kids are doing up there.”

CHRIS TUNGSETH, BRADEN RUMFELT, HANNAH HARPER, KEYLA RICHARDSON, JORDAN MCCULLOUGH

Lionel Richie took a broader, more reflective view of the competition, focusing on how the Top 7 are now being shaped more by authenticity than critique. He suggested that at this stage, artistic identity matters more than technical judgment.

“At a certain point, you actually have to just stop trying to critique them as who you think they should be and let them be,” Lionel said. He noted that this shift is already happening as the competition moves from Top 7 to Top 5. “And that’s what’s happening now in this Top 7 to Top 5. It’s going to be agonizing. America’s going to fall in love with them. And we have to witness who gets that love more.”

With Brooks Rosser and Daniel Stallworth officially eliminated, the remaining five contestants now move forward into an increasingly unpredictable race toward the finale, where every performance carries even greater weight.
