Despite being a country icon and sitcom sensation, Reba McEntire believes that when it comes to getting hitched, it should be all about the essentials: food, comfort, and friends.
It’s a sentiment shared by her fiancé and Happy’s Place co-star Rex Linn, who proposed to McEntire on Christmas Eve in 2024 before later announcing their engagement to the public the following September 2025. The couple is currently starring in Season 2 of NBC’s hit sitcom Happy’s Place, where their love is echoed onscreen as they play the recently smitten Bobbie and Emmett. While their connection blooms on the show, McEntire and Linn have been soaking up their engagement era as much as possible, in no big rush to get to the altar.
While some couples go big and throw an extravagant affair, McEntire and Linn told E! News that they plan to embrace a “nontraditional” ceremony and reception that’s much more their style.
Reba McEntire and Rex Linn’s wedding will be “a lot of fun”
Bobbie and Emmett may still be defining their romantic relationship on Season 2 of Happy’s Place, but off camera, the couple can hear wedding bells on the horizon. While they have yet to reveal an official wedding date, McEntire and Linn dished some wedding details in a November 2025 interview with E! News.
“It’ll be a lot of fun,” McEntire said. “It’s gonna be a nontraditional wedding because that’s Rex and me. We like comfort, we love friends, we love food.”
Every good wedding needs those three staples, and we can trust an entertainment icon to throw a high-energy shindig. Meanwhile, Linn is enjoying the time before the Big Day, not in any rush toward the altar thanks to all the quality time he gets to spend with his wife-to-be on Happy’s Place.
“What we’re doing right now, honestly, is enjoying our engagement time,” Rex explained to E! News. “We haven’t set a date, we’re just going to enjoy our engagement and enjoy going to Happy’s Place every day.”
How Rex Linn popped the question to Reba McEntire
So, how did Linn ask the mythic McEntire to be his wife? In an interview with USA Today, McEntire revealed that Linn’s proposal was as down-to-earth as their bespoke connection after he popped the question while “riding around” and hanging out together on their Tennessee ranch. After Linn asked McEntire to “hop out” near a scenic creek, he surprised her by proposing with a thoughtful message.
McEntire recalled, “He said, ‘I want to cross the finish line with you. Would you marry me?'” McEntire was rendered speechless, which naturally led Linn to panic for a moment. Can you get more Happy’s Place than that?
“He said, ‘You’re not saying anything!’ And I finally said, ‘Well, yes! YES!’ He thought he was going to have to jump into the creek,” she revealed to USA Today, adding that Linn proposed with a one-of-a-kind ring that McEntire can’t stop staring at.
“It is black diamonds and rose gold. And it sparkles all the time,” McEntire told USA Today. “I don’t think I’ve ever cleaned it, and it just sparkles.”

When asked about when they’d be getting hitched, McEntire echoed their preference for a long engagement in an interview with People.
“I asked him, ‘Well, when do you want to do this?’ He said, ‘Let’s have fun with the engagement time.’ So we haven’t set a date or anything. We’re just enjoying each other,” McEntire revealed before reminiscing on her sweet connection to Linn. “I’ve never been loved by a man like Rex Linn. Rex is a very tender-hearted man, and I just love him with all my heart. He’s a good guy. Real bashful though.”
