Scotty McCreery’s Son Shows Musical Talent Beyond His Years, Proving Music Truly Runs in the Family

Scotty McCreery’s Son Is Already a George Strait Fan — Just Listen to Him Sing!

It’s not a huge surprise that Scotty McCreery is introducing his 2-and-a-half year old son to George Strait’s music right away.

McCreery’s a massive fan of The King — so much so that he dedicated a whole song to him, called “Damn Strait.”

But it looks like little Avery’s not content to just listen to Strait’s music — he wants to try his hand at singing it himself.

In an adorable new video that looks like it might have been filmed in a studio, McCreery and his son can be heard off-camera paying their own homage to the King of Country. You can hear Avery’s sweet little voice as he sings a line from Strait’s 1985 hit “The Chair,” and honestly, it’s a pretty great rendition.

“Who sings that song?” McCreery asks his son.

“George Strait,” the young boy confidently replies.

You can’t see the father-son duo directly in the clip — the camera instead faces a pane of glass. But from their images reflected in the glass, it looks like McCreery’s standing at a studio microphone, holding Avery in his arms.

There’s no doubt that Avery’s a musical kid. He’s been making appearances onstage with his country star dad since he was a newborn, and for his second birthday last October, McCreery and his wife Gabi gave their son a toy drum kit.

It’s not clear whether they were in the studio for a recording session or simply hanging out there as a family, but who knows? The future just might hold a studio duet between McCreery and his talented son.

Top 10 Scotty McCreery Songs

No. 10: “Water Tower Town” (From ‘Clear as Day’)

OK, it’s a little corny, but it’s as wholesome as fans wanted McCreery to be coming off of his big win on American Idol. This Top 40 single wrapped up promotion of his first album on Mercury Records, Clear as Day. Fun fact: Cole Swindell co-wrote “Water Tower Town.”

No.9: “Feelin’ It” (From ‘See You Tonight’)

McCreery is a low-key beach bum on this Top 10 hit from See You Tonight. The song showcases the singer’s dynamic country voice, but also adds a touch of R&B sensibility.

No. 8: “See You Tonight” (From ‘See You Tonight’)

“See You Tonight” found McCreery taking ownership of his music, literally. It was his first co-write released to country radio and he was rewarded with his first Top 10 hit. The easy love song still fits nicely into his live show.

No 7: “Still” (From ‘Seasons Change’)

Call this choice on the Taste of Country list of Top 10 Scotty McCreery songs the critic’s pick. “Still” — from Seasons Change in 2018 — is an effective love ballad that’s as dynamic as anything he released to date. It would have made a great radio single.

No. 6: “Barefootin'” (From ‘Seasons Change’)

McCreery paid homage to his home state with this shag tune. “Barefootin'” stands apart from every arrangement across his catalog for its reliance on horns, but the clever songwriting stands out, too.

No. 5: “You Time” (From ‘Same Truck’)

The first single from Same Truck finds McCreery returning to songs inspired by the love of his life. “You Time” is a catchy, pop-country jam that recalls some of his earlier recordings, but he simply does everything better on this song from his Top 10 list.
No. 4: In Between (From Seasons Change)

No. 4: “In Between” (From ‘Seasons Change’)

When it was released as a single in 2019, “In Between” felt like a statement song for McCreery. It found him singing about whiskey and a 40-hour work week, taboo topics compared to when fans met him at 17 years old. He needed a song like this to hit for the sake of his commercial future, and it certainly did.

No. 3: “Carolina Moon” With Alison Krauss (From ‘See You Tonight’)

Jon Randall led the songwriting on “Carolina Moon,” a song that fit Scotty McCreery like it was tailored just for him in 2013. This is perhaps his most poetic vocal, and Alison Krauss’ involvement makes it so much more special. If anything, she’s underutilized on this collaboration, the only one in McCreery’s catalog.

No. 2: “This Is It” (From ‘Seasons Change’)

“This Is It” is understandably special for McCreery and wife Gabi Dugal, as it was written to tell the story of their engagement. That’s not why it reached No. 1, however. Songwriter McCreery left it open-ended enough for fans to apply their own love stories, too. The touching ballad is one of the best of his young career.

No. 1: “Five More Minutes” (From ‘Seasons Change’)

Songs that make us cry always get bonus points, but “Five More Minutes” is No. 1 on this list of the singer’s Top 10 songs for more than one reason. The storytelling is special and his vocals are proud, but patient. Beyond that, this is the song that revived McCreery’s struggling commercial career in 2017. Remember, he released it without record label support, but the early success inspired a contract with Triple Tigers.
