Niall Horan Faces His Toughest Choice Yet and Sends DEK of Hearts Flying With a Mic Drop on The Voice

On Monday, Nov. 10, DEK of Hearts competed in the Knockouts round on The Voice and their coach, Niall Horan, used his one and only mic drop button on them.

For this round, the trio from Nashville chose to perform “What If I Never Get Over You” and their opponent, Kayleigh Clark, performed “Blue.”

“I think this is what it looks like when two four-chair turns get into a knockout together,” Horan, 32, said after the performances. “Kayleigh, you just came out of the block strong. When we had [mega mentor] Joe Walsh and he told you to commit with breath, you took all of his notes, all of my notes and smashed it.”

He continued, “And DEK, that wall of sound you make is so beautiful. How many vocal groups do you hear these days where all three can sing?”

When host Carson Daly asked the “This Town” singer to make his decision, he said it was “a complete 50/50.”

“I have no idea what I’m going to do,” he said, before revealing the winner was DEK of Hearts.

During a confessional, Horan said it was “the toughest decision I’ve made on The Voice.”

“Kayleigh is an incredibly talented singer. I just have a feeling about DEK. They just bring something to the show and music that makes me excited,” he said. “When they sing together, it’s special.”

Then, Horan hit his mic drop button, meaning he’s nominated the group for a chance to sing at the upcoming Rose Parade. Each coach is only able to nominate one artist from their team — and then America will vote for the winner.

So far, coach Michael Bublé used his mic drop on Max Chambers — and coaches Reba McEntire and Snoop Dogg are left to decide.

“I think that every time that DEK steps on the stage it’s so solid, so consistent and they challenge themselves. I think they deserve the chance for America to see more of them.”

Afterward, the group reflected on the moment.

“It means the world to me that we got the mic drop,” Emily Clapp said of the group, which also includes Dylan John and Kollin Bailey.

The Voice airs Mondays at 5 p.m. ET on NBC.
