His legendary museum-hopping adventures during world tours birthed the beloved global phenomenon known lovingly by fans as “Namjooning.” His deep-rooted love affair with the art world sparked back in 2018 after a life-changing visit to the Art Institute of Chicago, as he revealed on the Intersections: The Art Basel podcast. Collecting art didn’t just become a hobby for him; it provided him with “the standard to live as a better man, as a better adult, and as a better artist.”
His profound influence has continually elevated Korean artists onto the world stage. Back on his 27th birthday in 2020, RM generously donated $84,000 to the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Foundation in Korea to fund the printing and nationwide distribution of rare art books featuring iconic creators like Kim Whan-ki, Lee Jung-seob, Yoo Young-kuk, Park Nae-hyeon, and Yun Hyong-keun. His artistic genius even bled into his solo music, with his critically acclaimed 2022 solo album Indigo directly inspired by Yun Hyong-keun’s master study, Blue.
